The partnership between Tamara and Graham began during a marine science internship in Thailand. While training as Divemasters, they identified a critical gap in the diving industry: the disconnect between witnessing ocean degradation and understanding how to solve it. They spent their surface intervals discussing the threats facing coral ecosystems and how to build systems to ensure every diver witnessing coral bleaching and mortality could play a role in restoration. This shared drive to protect the reefs not only solidified their friendship but ultimately led them to co-found REEF Scuba.
REEF Scuba is dedicated to redefining recreational diving by embedding Restoration, Ecology, and Environmental Focus (REEF) into diver curriculum and practice. Established in 2020 as an international 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the organization now holds UN Consultative status. Its goal is to cultivate a new generation of divers who are not merely tourists, but informed stewards and citizen scientists actively helping to monitor, conserve, and restore coral reefs.
As a pillar of REEF Scuba’s educational outreach, the REEF Roundup podcast explores the intersections of marine science, policy, enterprise, and conservation. Tamara and Graham interview global experts and front-line conservationists, providing listeners with a deep dive into the solutions driving ocean preservation. The show highlights inspiring ocean champions who believe we can still turn the tide toward a healthier ocean.
