Rose Huizenga is the founder of Coral Catch, a women-led conservation initiative based on Gili Air, Indonesia, and the co-founder and director of Gili Shark Conservation. Originally from the Netherlands, Rose has spent the past decade building a movement that combines reef restoration with women’s empowerment. What began as a dream to restore her island’s reefs has grown into a network of women leading conservation across Indonesia.
Through Coral Catch, Rose provides training and mentorship that equip women with the skills, confidence, and community to thrive in marine conservation. Known as the Coral Catch Superwomen, these graduates are not only restoring reefs but also sparking ripple effects of change in their own communities. Rose’s approach proves that empowering women is a catalyst for stronger ecosystems and stronger societies.
For Rose, this work is deeply personal. Every time she takes her daughters into the ocean, she is reminded why she began—so that the next generation can inherit a living, thriving ocean. Her mission is clear: to empower 100 women to pursue careers in conservation and 100 more to learn how to swim, ensuring a brighter future for both people and reefs.
